COACH QUOTES
- Coach Finneran, “Reid’s presence at any practice means a higher level of energy and intensity by all involved. Any team would be blessed to have an athlete of his caliber in the line-up. Reid’s passion for baseball and drive for success is contagious. He motivates teammates to perform above their abilities.”
- Coach Law, “His attitude and work ethic stand out. He has above average arm strength, good pop with the bat and can hit to all fields. He is absolutely the best base runner I have seen in 21 years of coaching. With his natural instinct, he may as well be faster than a 6.8.”
STUDENTathleteWorld EVALUATION
(Spring 2010)
- At STUDENTathleteWorld.com we contract professionals in each sport to evaluate our athletes. We realize that as college coaches you want to make this evaluation yourself. Our evaluation is simply to help our clients target the right level schools. College coaches please feel free to use our evaluations as a tool for yourselves, knowing it is our goal to be as realistic as possible!
STRENGTHS
- Speed and motor. Seems to play at a high level at least all the time on film. Liked his starting speed on the bases. However he needs to get a secondary lead where he is not starting from a complete stop every time. Other than that, I saw good base running instincts. Seemed to have the same speed in the outfield as well. I liked his short compact swing as well as his small strike zone and he appeared to have a decent feel for hitting and waiting for the right pitch. He also seemed to have a swing that could hit to all fields, but I did not see enough clips to verify that. That is an important thing for a potential leadoff hitter.
WEAKNESSES/ DEFICIENCIES COMPARED TO CURRENT COLLEGE ATHLETES OR PROSPECTS
- Reid’s major deficiencies are his overall size and his arm strength. Did not see many clips on outfield throws. I am assuming because of his size and the few higher throws I saw that arm strength needs to be developed some? Also, not sure of hitting power?
OTHER NOTES
- Interesting player. I think his size may turn D1′s off. Coached a kid like that at NC State Camp when he was a freshman and he ended up at ECU. Need to see video from behind the plate to evaluate the pitching. I project him as a D2 player. I think in a year he will be a lot better. The video only shows a small sample of his tools. I’d like to see more outfield throws, outfield closing speed, and his swing from behind the plate.
MAXIMUM POTENTIAL LEVEL OF PLAY PROJECTION
- This estimation is meant to project potential highest level of play. We at STUDENTathleteWorld.com understand the vast differences within divisions and also geographically. We are not meaning to label our clients or limit opportunities across all divisions. This is simply a tool for us and our clients to make sure we are not targeting schools far above our ability level.
